When I decided I was going to ask AMMM to marry me (many moons ago) I was on one of Her Majesty’s finest Warships. A tad inconvenient for the purchase of a nice diamond ring! However, we ended up on a ‘run ashore’ in Istanbul as part of our cruise and I decided I would take a look in the Grand Bazaar.

What met me was a sight to put a smile on any girls face and a chill into any man.

The Jewelry section of the Grand Bazaar is a (approximately) one mile long street of Jewellers stores, bursting with Diamonds, Gold, Silver, Platinum etc etc.

I eventually chose a Suspension set diamond (can’t remember the size) which looked amazing – clearly I was taking a bit of a gamble on her ring size as suspension set rings are very hard to adjust in size. But, being young(ish) and impulsive and lacking any other options, the purchase was made (nearly on my Bosses Credit Card as I was short of funds!), and much appreciated by AMMM on my return several weeks later (and it fitted fine!). Phew.

However, with the birth of our first child, I quickly realized that the diamond requirements of AMMM didn’t stop there! The next request, in return for the pain and inconvenience of pregnancy and childbirth was for a sparkly trinkett which, without the convenience of the Grand Bazaar, I struggled with a little more! I got there in the end though….
Guess what, child number two followed 5 years later (it took us both that long to recover from the Grenades early non-sleeping years) and the final piece of silver jewellery was required! Three years later I am still to come good on that one (Still saving!) but I have an idea of what to buy……

Anyway, as the song states ‘diamonds are a girls best friend’ – I can vouch for that from personal experience, maybe it’s time your men got the hint too!
