Simple Ways to Wind Down Naturally At Home

What do you do when the day has wrung you out? When people have taken too much of your energy, or life has just swallowed you up and spat you out in one piece, but not exactly whole?

Some people head straight to the sofa, throw on a Netflix box set, and chill on the couch; others grab a drink in the bar on the way home or pick up a bottle of wine for after dinner. For others, the gym makes sense when you’ve had one of those days.

But the truth is, there are many ways to wind down and habits and rituals you can establish to help you shrug off the day and be ready to face the next one and whatever it has to throw at you.

Baths That Feel Like An Escape

Water is always the answer. There is a popular saying going around on social media that points to water being the answer, be it via drinking water, running a bath, or going to a place of water to calm down and clear your head. It originated from a parental tip about soothing fussy babies, but the same theory can be applied to adults, too. And immersing yourself in warm water surrounded by soft lighting, candles, your favorite fragrances, and bath salts can be exactly what you need to unwind.

Move Gently

The gym is a great way to burn off excess energy and get your frustrations out, but gentle movement is what is going to relax you. Think pilates or yoga, gentle slow walks, stretching, or swaying as you stand in the kitchen waiting for dinner to cook. It’s moving your body to give it flow and movement that benefits. Moving your head until your neck feels more relaxed, twisting your body till your spine clicks. It’s about working the tension out gently and in a more soothing way.

Calm Spaces that Ease Tension

Sometimes it’s not you that needs a reset to help you relax, it’s your space. Harsh overhead lights, clutter everywhere, a blanket that doesn’t feel warm enough or big enough. These little things can ramp up tension and stress, not do the opposite.

Setting yourself up in a home that is designed for you to relax and rest as standard is going to make you feel so much better. By making small swaps to a clearer, more organized space that welcomes the shrugging off of a hard day, you can arrive home and let everything envelop you until you can’t even remember what stressed you in the first place.

Little Helpers

We were not talking about kids here, although they could be beneficial in helping you relax and take your mind off the day. It’s the herbal tea that knocks the edge off, the essential oils being pumped into the room from your diffuser, or putting fast acting Delta 9 THC drink drops in your bedtime beverage for an extra relaxation boost. There are many little helpers you can choose from; valerian or ashwaghanda, magnesium or melatonin, all great supplements for relaxation that might help you unwind and get some much-needed rest.
